Club of one

PODD Event – March 17, 2024
Location: The Grey Space in the Middle, The Hague, NL

As part of the March 2024 edition of the techno-focused PODD Event, Club of one is a performance created in collaboration with eight dancers. The event took place at The Grey Space in the Middle, an interdisciplinary presentation space in The Hague that supports music, performance, and visual arts.
Club of One unfolds as a live intervention in the exhibition area. In collaboration with Plak Boys—a female DJ collective invited for the evening—the performance explores the relationship between individuality and collectivity within contemporary club culture in Northern and Central Europe.
Developed through conversations with the dancers around personal needs, identity, gender, and cultural background in nightlife spaces, the piece challenges the common tendency to isolate within club environments. Through an improvised movement score, the dancers relate to the audience and each other, creating a dynamic and permeable performance space. The work is set against a visual projection installation. The audience is free to sit, stand, or move through the space—mirroring the core questions of the piece: How do we come together? How do we maintain our individuality within a collective? And how can we care for one another in moments of celebration?
